San Diego County Fair

Today was a true test of our mobility and patience! We went to the San Diego County Fair. John & I were sure to get moving early and we joined the stroller army outside of the gates before they opened. Jack was a sport for most of the day and we learned how to adjust our plans to satisfy the adults & baby. Some highlights...

Gadget Hall: Very disappointing as we did not see anything we could not live without.

Animals: Besides "the largest cow we have ever seen" they did not have a lot of livestock on display the day we chose to visit.

Garden Exhibits: Lovely & as expected there was a concentration on indigenous plants.

Food: My stomach aches at the thought. Fried everything. We were not brave enough to try the extreme foods such as: deep fried snickers; Chocolate chip cookie with Jam, cream cheese & chicken deep fried; and finally deep fried white castle burgers. We decided to snack on a fresh baked pretzel, fried zucchini & the tiny fresh donuts.

Games: We wasted about $10 on games. John won 2 stuffed animals. Not as many scary carnies, darn.

Beautiful day in San Diego! We made it home early enough to catch a (short) cat nap. Another weekend whizzed by!

Happy Father's Day!

It was a picture perfect day in San Diego! Perfect for a BBQ with the family and John's first Father's Day. Local family joined us to celebrate. As usual the food was delicious & a good time was had by all!

Jack is 3 weeks tomorrow & over the 10 lb mark! I know this time will pass quickly and I will soon need to return to work, but is has been so rewarding to spend the day watching Jack change so rapidly. He is recognizing my voice now and is learning that crying yields attention. We try to get out of the house at least once a day.

We think he is plotting to take over the world.

Play Time

We broke out the activity mat today. To our surprise Jack was very active and vocal. He loves it! (Thanks to Aunt Jessie, Tully & Hansen!) Now mommy can get a few more things done while Jack plays.

We can't believe you are 2 weeks old!

Home Alone with Jack

Erin and Aunt Sara went out for Sushi so I am home alone with Jack for the first time! He is sleeping in the swing so things are going pretty well! Erin went to the doctor today and everything is healing well. His APGAR score was 9.9. I am not sure what that means but Erin tells me it is good.

The First Trip To The Grocery Store

Today I worked a half day because Jack had to go back to the doctor for annother check up. Everything was good. He was back up to birth weight! He has also been getting some green discharge from his right eye. The doctor said it was very common, most likely caused from a blocked tear duct. We have to keep up with warm compresses and apply some pressure with our finger to try to unclog it. After that we made a trip to the grocery store. Jack cried almost the whole time! Erin said he had not slept all day and has been nursing every hour or two! So we cancelled our trip to Costco and came home. He nursed and is now sleeping in the swing!

Here is a picture from the store!

Getting into a routine...

Erin's post:

We have been home for almost a week and I feel like we are establishing a routine. John & I are getting accustomed to the extra time needed to do anything or go anywhere. We are also learning how to fit in feedings at home or on the road.

In such a short time I am amazed by how rewarding parenthood is. We are constantly in awe of a new facial expression or sound. I am sure we are in the glow of the "newness" the birth has created.

My father said, "Children make you learn a lot about yourself." How quickly I am learning! For instance, Jack makes a face where he is scrunching down his eyebrows. I quickly realized how often I make that face. I am told it is my thinking face and it has very obviously been passed on.

Update 6/4/09

We had great days yesterday and today! Yesterday we went to the doctor and everything looks good. Then we took Jack to NBI (John's work) so he could meet everybody. Erin and Lorna went to lunch at Mimi's Cafe while I got some work done. I guess that was Jack's first trip to a restaraunt! As I think about it I guess when you have a new baby life is full of firsts!

Today was a we had a trip to BABIES-R-US to get diapers. Feels like I will be making a lot of those trips in the future! The rest of the day was spent at home relaxing!

PS: Thanks to Christina and Jamie for dinner on Monday and thanks to my sister Debbie for dinner tonight! It is great to have such wonderful friends and family!
